The latest addition the the LuV servers is Squad. I got this game with low expectations on the Steam Summer Sale and instantly fell in love with it. I actually liked it so much that I asked Slim and Stormy if it was possible to get a LuV server of this game, and now we got one. It's not active yet, and needs some setting up before we'll be drawing players in but i wanted to share with you what this game is and what makes makes it so awesome. Hopefully some of you guys will like it too so we can team up!
The game is still in alpha-phase, but it already shows great potential. Both teams can have up to 40 players. The objective of the game is to capture points on the map, however unlike Battlefield you have to cap the points in a specific order, this causes both teams to constantly clash at these points. Both teams start with a certain amount of tickets, and the goal is to deplete those of the other team by killing, destroying vehicles/bases and capturing objectives.
Playing this game is all about working together as a Squad, the different roles each are very valuable to the total squad. There are medics, Anti-tank specialists, marksmen (Snipers), Grenadiers, and Fighters. Above all this roles, stands the squad leader who has to communicate the squads plans with other squads and build forward operating bases. Building bases can be extremely fun, as long as the SL can get a squad member to drive back and forth to fetch supplies from the main base. This means you can heavily fortify tactical positions on the map. These operating bases also serve as rally point for all squads so you can imagine that holding these is extremely valuable as teammates can re-enter battle quickly instead of having to walk/drive back all the way from main base.
One of the fun things i did in this game is setting up a mortar base were we just would cause chaos on any point where we would drop our bombshells without the enemy ever finding out where we were.
The graphics are alright and the locations are pretty awesome as battles are fought between the US Army, Russia, and Militia forces on russian, southern- asian and middle-eastern landscapes.
There are numerous vehicles in the game and more (choppers for example) will be added in upcoming updates. There are transports which can carry entire squads, logistic trucks that can supply bases and of course vehicles that can be used to put heavy fire onto the enemy. Driving these vehicles can be fun, but losing one can cost you a lot of tickets.
This game is a great balance between a ordinary shooter game, and a military simulation game. The emphasis is on working together as a squad instead of just trying to rack up as many kills as you can. Therefore it is almost a must to use a microphone when playing this, especially if you want to play as squad leader. At 36,99 it's a bit pricey, but if you see it on sale or simply have deep enough pockets then I would advise you to try out this game.
